Clachan Cottage has its own private trout loch 'Mossroddich' which is situated on the outskirts of St John’s Town of Dalry just half a mile away from the cottage. Mossroddich is a 6 acre hill loch stocked regularly with both brown and rainbow trout and has stunning views over the local countryside.
There are three boats, however, many fishermen enjoy fishing from the hard bottom shallows but waders are advisable. A daily ticket normally costs £15 but for clients staying in the cottage fishing is free of charge. (subject to max two rods / 2 sessions).
Mossroddich is fly fishing only with a 4 rod limit at any one time, a three fish per person limit and Sunday fishing is allowed.
Mossroddich is stocked regularly with fish between 1lb and 3lb with the occasional heavier fish from 5lb to 10lb for good measure.
There a various other trout lochs in the area all within 30 minutes drive to offer a varied choice of venue and some exciting sport.
