Walking
Clachan cottage is ideally situated to enjoy an abundance of walking from local riverside walks and village strolls to Scotland's 212 mile coast to coast long distance route, the Southern Upland Way, which passes directly through the centre of St. John's Town of Dalry. So whether you wish to stroll down the river bank or tackle an 18 mile section of the Southern Upland Way or indeed take on the challenge of the Merrick or the Rhinns of Kells, Clachan Cottage is an ideal central location.
Dalry is one of four villages that make up the Glenkens. New Galloway, Balmaclellan and Carsphairn are all within a short distance of Dalry. The Glenkens is quickly becoming a popular destination for walkers, both local and from throughout the UK and is central to a wide range of walks that suite all abilities. Maps and guide books are available upon request and we would be delighted to assist anyone with their plans to organize a memorable walking holiday.

Cycling It is often remarked upon by visitors how quiet our roads are and how appealing they are to cycling. Endless country roads with stunning views of the countryside and wildlife provide an excellent opportunity to get on your bike and explore the area.
Bird Watching For years bird watchers have visited the area to experience many species of birds from wild geese to birds of prey. Now we are also pleased to advise that we have the Galloway Red Kite Trail which is proving to be extremely popular with many visitors where these fantastic birds can be seen throughout the area plus at close quarters at the feeding station at Laurieston.
